Coffee with Hats and Pies

I am a person with many hats who lived with the idea that life is like a pie.

I am a Christian, writer, wife, vice-principal, teacher, daughter, sister, friend, church volunteer, a student, and many other roles.

In my life, I am learning how exhausting it truly is to see all of these roles as different hats that I need to wear at different times as if I have to divide up my love, attention, and energy to be all and everything in each role.

Viewing different roles that we carry on as various slices of the pie that have very specific start and endpoints lead us to pigeon-hole ourselves to only being part of ourselves and not the whole glorious pie.

We don’t need to divide up our love, where we divide it up amongst ourselves, God, our passion, our partner, our colleagues, our family, our friends, our community, our endeavors, our health.

I just want to be me, Lauren Cancio.

I just want you to be you.

Let’s just be our best selves, vibrant and overflowing with love from moment to moment, not seeing our love as many hats or countless slices of pie.

Living in authenticity, who you are being is really who you are, minimizes the burnout and allows us to embrace the whole pie, the whole essence, of who we are.

Compartmentalizing our personhood and compartmentalizing our love isn’t loving fearlessly or living authentically.

This week, I encourage you to wear one hat and embrace life as one glorious, diverse, and sacred pie and choose to be all here at this moment.
