Just One Step
You are a bare and tired tree panting for water
Your withered roots reach
Digging deep in the soil with desperation, anticipation
Of the promise that you were called
To bloom where you are planted
Where are you planted?
You look within, you look out
The river, so close yet so far
You stretch, push, and reach, once again
Pessimistic panic
Scared surrender
Beckon you to defeat, but you repeat
“Be still and know that I am God”
So you push
Just one more day
Hold on for just one more moment
Just one more step
The sun scorches hope
The rain raises worry
The cold cringes faith
Defeat wants to choose you, but
Instead you choose
Prayerful perseverance
Sacred surrender
The river, closer
You stretch, push, reach
Digging even deeper, pushing even further
You have reached the water
Roots drinking from a well that has no end
Withered roots healed
From being bare to being boundless
With fruit, flowers, and shade to spare for others
From being tired to being endless
From panting to feeling weightless and free
You choose to stay grounded and planted here
You made it because you took just one step.
